from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bagration-Dawitaschwili ( Georgian ბაგრატიონ-დავითაშვილი, Russian Багратионы-Давыдовы, Bagration-Dawidow ) is a Georgian royal house. It is a younger line of the royal Bagratid dynasty.

Their ancestors go to the Kakhetian prince back Dawit, whose uncle as Giorgi II. Kachetische usurped crown by killing his grandfather, Alexander I of Kakheti, and then blinded Dawits father. The Bagration-Dawitashvili family fled to the neighboring Georgian kingdom of Kartlien , where they continued to exist as a princely family.

After the annexation of Georgia by the Russian Empire , the family was accepted into the Russian nobility on December 21, 1849 under the name Bagration-Dawidow (Russian Багратионы-Давыдовы).
