The Bay of All Saints ( Portuguese Baía de Todos os Santos ) is a bay in the Brazilian state of Bahia and namesake of this state. At the exit of the bay is the capital of the state of Salvador . It is one of the largest sea bays in the South Atlantic .
Amerigo Vespucci , sailing in Portuguese service, entered a spacious bay just on All Saints Day , on November 1st, 1501, a good hundred kilometers south of the twelfth parallel and named it after the day of landing: Bahia de Todos os Santos .
