history
Osaka Station was opened on May 11, 1874 as one of the first stations in the Kinki / Kansai region when it began operating on the route from Osaka to Kobe . It was electrified along with the Tōkaidō main line.
After the partial destruction during the Second World War, it took until the late 1970s and early 1980s for the station sections to be rebuilt.
In the years 2007 to 2011, the station was extensively redesigned while operations continued. An administration building was built right next to the station and a large roofed hall was created over the actual station area. In addition to a new access via the former freight yard, which previously had to be crossed on foot by means of a long tunnel, the new administration building offers additional business premises on the lower floors; the new hall is more clearly laid out than the partially confused corridor system from the time before the redesign. The redesign was carried out while the station was in operation, which made it necessary to pass enormous crowds of people through the station entrances safely and protected from construction debris , especially during rush hour . In particular, in the direction of the Yodobashi Camera, an above-ground tunnel was built almost through the construction site.
