The Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station ( Chinese  上海虹橋站 , Pinyin Shànghǎi Hongqiao Zhàn  - "Rainbow Bridge stop") is one of four main railway stations in Shanghai next to the Shanghai Railway Station , Shanghai South Railway Station and Shanghai West Railway Station . In 2011 it was the largest train station in Asia by area and is located directly west of Terminal 2 of Shanghai Hongqiao Airport .

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, located in the Changning District of Shanghai, is the main part of the Hongqiao Comprehensive Transportation Hub (“the Hongqiao hub”).

Construction of the station began on July 20, 2008. A total of 15 billion yuan ($ 2.3 billion) was invested. The opening took place on July 1, 2010 at the same time as the opening of the Huning High-Speed ​​Railway . The total area of ​​the station including its tracks is 1.3 million m². There are 30 platforms, most of which are designed for high-speed trains.

The Beijing – Shanghai high-speed line opened in 2011 , as well as the high-speed lines to Hangzhou and Nanjing, serve the station.

In local transport, the station is served by three lines of the Shanghai Metro . Since 2010, the city center has been connected to the train station by lines 2 and 10. Since December 2017, line 17 has also been running from here in a westerly direction to Oriental Land.

On the roof of the building there is a solar system consisting of 20,000 solar modules with a total area of ​​61,000 m².
