The Tömörtei – Chandgait railway line is a 33.4 km long, broad-gauge, new line with a gauge of 1520 millimeters for the transport of iron ore in the Darchan - Selenge region in Mongolia .

history

The line was built in 2015-2016 with three loading and unloading terminals and train stations. The signal systems and level crossings are equipped with the latest technology. The route was financed and built by the mining company QSC under a concession agreement. It was handed over to the state-owned Mongolian Railway AG (MTZ), including a loading and unloading device, based on a government resolution published on February 1, 2016. It is used to transport iron ore from the Tömörtei mine to a new steel and ironworks that is being built near the Darkhan Metallurgical Plant. On April 3, 2016, the route was opened by Parliament President Dsandaachüügiin Enchbold. MTZ planned to transport one million tons of iron ore in 2016 and intends to increase the transport volume to eight to ten million tons per year in the future.
