The railway Websterville-East Barre is a railway line in Vermont ( United States ). It is 2.7 kilometers long and connects the city of East Barre to the town of Websterville and there to the Barre – Graniteville railway line . The line is closed and dismantled.
history
The single-track, standard-gauge line was opened on September 3, 1892 by the East Barre Railroad in freight and passenger traffic. An extension via Washington to Chelsea was planned and so the railway company was called from 1893 East Barre and Chelsea Railroad , but no sponsors were found for this extension. In 1913 the line was taken over by the Barre and Chelsea Railroad , which ceased passenger traffic in 1922 and closed it in 1937.
Route description
The route begins at Websterville station and heads east to East Barre. A quarry interrupts the former railway line today. The remaining sections of the route are still visible today, but part of the route in East Barre was built over.
