Bakary Sanyang

Bakary K. Sanyang (* 20th century) is a Gambian administrative officer and has been the Gambia's ombudsman since April 2020 .

Life

Sanyang has worked in the Gambian public sector since 1978, where he rose from an income tax officer to general commissioner of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA). He also served as an income tax advisor under the West African Economic Community Commission .

On January 8, 2018, Sanyang was appointed Governor of the West Coast Region (WCR) by the Adama Barrow government, replacing Ebrima Mballow , who was appointed Minister of the Interior.

President Barrow proposed Sanyang as ombudsman , and the National Assembly approved his proposal at the end of May 2020. The first election of the President in December 2019 for the Ombudsman, Babucarr Suwareh , was previously rejected by the National Assembly. The National Assembly only approved if Sanyang resigned from the office of governor, which he did on April 7, 2020. His previous deputy, Musa Suso , temporarily took over the office. Lamin Sanneh was appointed as his successor .
