Balázs Magyar

Balázs Magyar († 1490 ) was a Hungarian general.

Life

Beginning his military career under Johann Hunyadi , he took part in the campaigns against the Hussites and Czechs under Matthias Corvinus . In 1462 he was the captain of " Felvidék ". From 1470 he was responsible for protecting the southern state borders. From 1470 to 1474 he was a Slovenian-Croatian Ban (Hungarian district. Reichsverwalter) and from 1473 to 1475 "Vajda" (about area manager) of Transylvania . From here he supported the “Moldva” regions (today Moldova) against the Turks.

In 1479 he took part in the conquest of the island of Veglia , but this was unsustainable against the Venetian fleets.

In 1480 King Matthias sent him out with a small troop to win Otranto ( Italy ) back from the Turks. He successfully completed the task. From 1480 to 1483 he was the Croatian imperial administrator. Until the end of his life he lived in seclusion and because of his extraordinary services he received large, magnificent estates from King Matthias, mainly in western Hungary and in Trencsén .

He bequeathed his belongings to his daughter Benigna and her husband Pál Kinizsi , whom he also recognized as his son.
