Ball kick

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A ball kick is - like a crown kick - an injury to the front hoof that a horse inflicts on itself by kicking the rear hoof on the same side.

Ball kicks can easily occur in difficult, slippery terrain, but also more often if the horse is too tired and the horse is careless. Some horses also have a higher risk of ball kick because of the way they move. So-called jumping bells can be attached to the horse's hoof to protect against ball kicks .
