The Balleny Trough is a small lake basin in the Somov Sea off the Oates coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land .

It is named, recognized by the Advisory Committee for Undersea Features since February 1972 , based on the naming of the Balleny Islands after the English whaling captain John Balleny (1770–1842).
