The Balochistan Liberation Army ( بلوچستان لبریشن آرمی; BLA for short ), also known as the Baloch Liberation Army , is a militant organization in Pakistan and Afghanistan . Since 2004 the BLA has been waging an armed struggle against the Pakistani state in order to enforce equal rights and self-determination for the Baluch in Pakistan, whom the BLA believes are oppressed in Pakistan. The BLA operates mainly in Balochistan , the largest province in Pakistan by area, where it carries out attacks against Pakistani armed forces and state institutions. The Baloch Liberation Army became known in the summer of 2000 after carrying out a series of attacks against Pakistani authorities. The BLA is listed as a terrorist organization by Pakistan (since April 7, 2006) and Great Britain (since July 2006), but initially not by the United States , the EU and India . On July 2, 2019, the US State Department officially classified the BLA as a global terrorist organization. The European Union also called the BLA a terrorist organization. The BLA has been accused by human rights organizations of advocating ethnic cleansing and violent actions against non-Baluchi.
