Bamboo torture

A bamboo shoot

The bamboo torture is a form of torture in which the torture ends with the help of a growing bamboo shoot pain be inflicted or the tortured is killed.

application

The victim is fixed lying down over a bamboo shoot that is about to sprout from the ground. Since bamboo shoots grow a few centimeters per day and are strong enough to find their way through the ground between stones and roots, the bamboo shoots penetrate the tortured person's body as soon as they leave the ground. This relatively slow penetration into the body causes the tortured person extreme pain and can lead to death.

In another application, the victim is tied to a chair without a seat and the tip of the bamboo shoot is inserted into the anus . The sprout grows into the body within two to three days if watered abundantly with water. This initially causes extreme pain and leads to death if important organs are damaged. The threat and implementation of this torturous death penalty was applied to slaves in Réunion .

According to one report, bamboo torture was also used on Allied soldiers in Japan during World War II .

attempt

In a MythBusters special ( Special No. 12 ) in 2008, it was shown that a bamboo shoot is able to grow through a body made of ballistic gelatine within three days .
