Torn ligament
Ligaments , ligament rupture or ligament injury refers to the partial to complete tearing ( rupture ) of a joint tape .
A ligament rupture is also known as desmorrhexis ( δεσμός , ligament; ῥῆξις rupture).
Symptoms typically include local pain , characteristic functional failures and, depending on the location, typical phenomena such as the ability to open the joint or a drawer phenomenon .
Typical ligament injuries:
- External ligament rupture of the upper ankle joint
- Collateral ligament tear on the knee
- Torn cruciate ligament on the knee
- Tear of the ulnar collateral ligament as part of an elbow dislocation
- Collateral ligament rupture of the thumb in the thumb joint ("ski thumb")
