KK Mitsubishi Tōkyō UFJ Ginkō ( Japanese 株式会社 三菱 東京 UFJ 銀行 , Kabushiki kaisha Mitsubishi Tōkyō UFJ Ginkō , English The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. , abbreviated BTMU) is a Japanese bank that was launched on January 1, 2006 the merger of the KK Tōkyō Mitsubishi Ginkō ( The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Ltd. ) and the KK UFJ Ginkō ( UFJ Bank Limited ) was created.

The bank serves as the central financial institution of the KK Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), the world's largest financial services provider in terms of deposits. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange .

The company's headquarters are in Marunouchi , Chiyoda district in Tokyo .

history

The history of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi goes back to 1880, when it was founded under the name Mitsubishi Bank . In the same year, the Yokohama Specie Bank , a predecessor of the Bank of Tokyo , was founded in 1945 with the capital of the Yokohama Specie Bank. On April 1, 1996, the Mitsubishi Bank and the Bank of Tokyo merged to form the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi .

On January 15, 2002, the UFJ Bank was formed through the merger of Sanwa Bank (founded in 1933), Tokai Bank (1941) and Toyo Trust and Banking Co. (1978) .

In July 2004, the KK Mitsubishi Tōkyō Financial Group agreed to the merger with KK UFJ Holdings . The merger took place on October 1, 2005, creating the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. On January 1, 2006, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi merged with the UFJ Bank to form the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ
