Banner (print)
Banners are mostly large-area prints that are used for advertising purposes , especially in the field of outdoor advertising , and are intended to draw attention to something.
Banners are printed on PVC fabric film or mesh, also called mesh banners, mostly with solvents or by means of UV direct printing. What is new is the environmentally friendly printing using latex inks (until now latex printers have only been manufactured by HP and Mimaki). Most banners are provided with piping , eyelets or hemstitch all around . Thanks to digital printing technology, large-format banners are now comparatively affordable to produce even in very small print runs.
The banners can usually be manufactured without a seam up to a width of 5 meters. All larger advertising banners are welded together using hot air.
For aerial advertising purposes, tow banners up to 100 meters long can also be pulled through the air by powered aircraft or ultralight aircraft . As a rule, however, fabric banners made of polyester are used for this.
Since PVC is also used for short-term advertising due to its low cost, a relatively large amount of waste is generated. Some manufacturers therefore offer free take-back for recycling purposes. Individual manufacturers also offer PVC-free banners.
