Bant's Carn

Bant's Carn is a Bronze Age Entrance Grave on a hill above Halangy Down "Ancient Village" on St. Mary’s , the main island of the Isles of Scilly .

Bant's Carn is a round mound of earth about eight meters in diameter, located on a low platform, in which a so-called "Scillonian Entrance Grave" is located. A short corridor leads to the chamber about five meters long and 1.5 m wide. Chamber and passage are on one axis and are separated by side posts. Some systems of this type are covered along their entire length of the aisle and some, such as Bant's Carn, have an open-top area that extends from the curb to the chamber. The roof consists of four large horizontal capstones. The restored hill is bordered by curbs.

Finds

Excavations of the complex took place in 1900 and 1970. The finds consisted of corpse fire (in the rear part of the chamber), shards of Neolithic and Bronze Age ceramics, as well as two worked flint stones that were recovered in front of the complex.
