Barbara Lynn
Barbara Lynn , born as Barbara Lynn Ozen, (born January 16, 1942 in Beaumont , Texas ) is an American rhythm and blues singer, guitarist and songwriter .
Musical career
Lynn began playing the piano as a child, but later switched to guitar, which she played left-handed throughout her career. In her early public appearances, she won several talent competitions. As a teenager, she started a girls' band called "Bobbie Lynn and Her Idols". With her, she performed in local clubs and pubs while still at school, and was noticed by singer Joe Barry, who recommended her to producer Huey Meaux .
First Meaux recorded a single with Lynn in 1961 with his own small record company Eric. When he switched to Jamie Records in 1962, he brokered a recording contract for Lynn there and produced with her the song You'll Lose a Good Thing, which she wrote herself . This was released in May 1962 and became Lynn's greatest record success. It rose to eighth place in the Hot 100 of the US music magazine Billboard and reached top position in the rhythm and blues (R&B) charts. By 1971, Lynn was able to place a total of ten titles in the US charts, most of these songs she had written herself. In 1966 she took a break and then recorded four singles in 1967 on Meaux's own label Tribe. These were unsuccessful and therefore Lynn moved to the big record company Atlantic Records at the end of the year , but continued to work with Meaux as a producer. In 1969, Lynn married and interrupted her career for several years because of the birth of their three children. After her contract with Atlantik expired in 1972, she recorded a few singles with the small label Jetstream until 1976 and ended her recording career in 1976. From her residence in Los Angeles , she occasionally performed in clubs in the vicinity.
In 1984 Lynn gave her career a new boost with a tour of Japan. There the live album You Don't Have to Go was created , which was later released in the USA. Until the early 1990s she gave further concerts that also took her to Europe. After her husband died, she returned to her birthplace, Beaumont. From 1994 a few more studio albums with Barbara Lynn appeared. In 1999 she received the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation .
