Barkhaus switch

Barkhaus switch

The Barkhaus switch (after Heinrich Barkhausen ) is used to set the speed of universal motors .

It consists of an armature parallel resistor and a series resistor with taps. This results in a large speed range and a limitation of the idle speed.

With the Barkhaus circuit , a speed change is possible within wide limits and the series connection behavior is reduced by the parallel resistance. By reducing the rigid series connection character, the engine no longer tends to run away when idling.
