Baron Ashtown
Baron Ashtown , of Moate in the County of Galway , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
The historic family residence of the barons was Woodlawn House near Ballinasloe in County Galway until 1947 .
Award
The title was created on December 27, 1800 by Letters patent for the politician and MP in the Irish House of Commons Frederick Trench . Since he had no children, the award was made with the special note that in the absence of male descendants of his own, the title could also be inherited by his father's male descendants.
Today's title holder has been his great-great-great-great-nephew Roderick Trench as the 8th Baron since 2010 .
