Viscount Combermere
Viscount Combermere , of Bhurtpore in the East Indies and of Combermere in the County Palatine of Chester , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on February 8, 1827 for the military and former MP Stapleton Cotton, 1st Baron Combermere . The award was made in recognition of the victory in the siege of the Indian city of Bhurtpore (December 9, 1825 - January 18, 1826).
As early as May 17, 1814, he was given the subordinate title Baron Combermere , of Combermere in the County Palatine of Chester.
The Viscount family seat was Combermere Abbey in the south of Cheshire until 1919 .
