Awards and subordinate titles

On March 16, 1664, the title Earl of Craven , in the County of York , was bestowed on William Craven, 1st Baron Craven , along with the subordinate title Viscount Craven , of Uffington in the County of Berkshire . Already on March 12, 1627 to Baron Craven , of Hamstead Marshall in the County of Berkshire, was raised, with the special addition that the title was inheritable to his brothers John Craven (1610-1648) and Thomas Craven († 1637) . On December 11, 1665 he was again the title of Baron Craven , of Hamstead Marshall in the County of Berkshire, bestowed, this time with the special addition that the title was inheritable to his second nephew Sir William Craven (1638-1695). All of these titles belong to the Peerage of England. When he died unmarried and childless in 1697, his brothers had already died childless, so that all of his titles were extinguished, except for the barony of 1665, William Craven (1668-1711), the son of the aforementioned Sir William Craven, as 2nd baron inherited.

His descendant, the 7th Baron, was raised on June 18, 1801 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom to Earl of Craven , with the subordinate title Viscount Uffington , in the County of Berkshire. His descendants still hold the title today.

Baron Craven of Ryton

The 1st Earl's brother, John Craven , was bestowed the title of Baron Craven , of Ryton in the County of Shrewsbury , on March 21, 1643 . The title expired when he died childless in 1648.
