Baron Grenfell
Baron Grenfell , of Kilvey in the County of Glamorgan , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
history
The title was created on July 19, 1902 for the officer Sir Francis Wallace Grenfell . He had served especially in Egypt during the Urabi and Mahdi uprisings . He had been Sirdar in the Egyptian Army , later Governor of Malta and Commander in Chief in Ireland .
He was succeeded by his eldest son Pascoe. He was Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords .
His son, the European politician Julian Grenfell , inherited the title in 1976. He lost his seat in the House of Lords through the House of Lords Act 1999 . He was raised on April 17, 2000 as Baron Grenfell of Kilvey in the County of Swansea and was able to take a seat in the House of Lords again. On March 31, 2014, he left the House of Lords at his own request.
