Baron Holand

Baron Holand was a hereditary British title of nobility created twice as Barony by writ in the Peerage of England .

Awards

For the first time he was awarded title on July 29, 1314 to Sir Robert de Holand , when he was called to the English Parliament by Writ of Summons . His great-granddaughter, the 3rd Baroness married John Lovel, 5th Baron Lovel around 1372 , whereby her grandson William Lovel, 7th Baron Lovel in 1420 combined the titles of Baron Lovel and Baron Holand. His grandson, the 8th Baron Lovel and 5th Baron Holand, was elevated to Viscount Lovel on January 4, 1483 . In the Wars of the Roses he fought on the side of the House of York and was therefore stripped of his title for high treason in 1485.

In parallel to the first award, another title Baron Holand was created on March 15, 1354 , when the second son of the first baron of the first award, Sir Thomas Holland , was appointed to Parliament by Writ of Summons. He was also raised to Earl of Kent on November 20, 1360 . His son, the 2nd Earl, inherited the title of 6th Baron Wake from his mother in 1385 . His eldest son, the 3rd Earl, was also elevated to Duke of Surrey on September 29, 1397 . The dukedom expired with his childless death in 1400. The remaining titles fell to his brother, the 4th Earl. When he died in 1408, the Earldom was extinguished and the two baronies fell in Abeyance between his six sisters and their descendants.
