Baron Methuen , of Corsham in the County of Wilts , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The family seat of the barons is Corsham Court near Chippenham in Wiltshire.

Award

It was created on July 13, 1838 for former Member of Parliament for Wiltshire and North Wiltshire, Paul Methuen of the Methuen family .

His grandson, the 3rd Baron , was a distinguished soldier and governor of Malta . His son, the fourth baron, was a professional artist and a member of the Royal Academy . After his death, the title fell to his younger brother, the fifth Baron Methuen. Since 2009 the title has been carried out by the younger son of the latter, the seventh baron, who obtained the title after the death of his older brother. Lord Methuen is one of the ninety elected hereditary peers who are members of the House of Lords following the passage of the House of Lords Act 1999 . He's sitting there on the benches of the Liberal Democratic Party .
