Baron Norwich

Baron Norwich was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

Award

The title was on February 25, 1342 as Barony by writ by King Edward III. created for the military John de Norwich by being appointed to the royal parliament by Writ of Summons . The title was also associated with the right to fortify his family seat in Mettingham, Suffolk , after which he converted it into a small stone castle, later Mettingham Castle . His son Walter de Norwich died before him in 1360, so that his grandson John de Norwich inherited his title of 2nd Baron in 1362. The title expired when he died in 1374.
