Baron Ruthven of Gowrie

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baron Ruthven of Gowrie , of Gowrie in the County of Perth , is a hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title was created on October 28, 1919 for Walter Hore-Ruthven, 9th Lord Ruthven of Freeland . He had inherited the title of Lord Ruthven of Freeland from his mother in 1864 .

Since the barony can only be inherited in the male line and the lordship in the female line, on the death of his son, the 2nd baron, the title of lord fell to his daughter Bridget Monckton, Viscountess Monckton of Brenchley , while the baron title to his great-nephew Alexander Ruthven, 2nd Earl of Gowrie fell. The latter had inherited the titles of Earl of Gowrie , Viscount Ruthven of Canberra and Baron Gowrie from his grandfather in 1955 .
