Baron Seaford
Baron Seaford , of Seaford in the County of Sussex , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was created by Letters Patent on July 1, 1826 for the House of Commons Charles Ellis .
When he died on July 1, 1845, the title fell to his eldest son Charles as 2nd Baron. On July 8, 1803, he had inherited his maternal great-grandfather as the 6th Baron Howard de Walden . Both titles remained united until July 9, 1999, when the 9th Baron Howard de Walden and 5th Baron Seaford died, leaving four daughters but no son. As a Barony by letters patent, the Barony Seaford can only be inherited in the male line and accordingly fell to his third nephew, Colin Ellis, as the 6th Baron Seaford. The Barony Howard de Walden is hereditary as Barony by writ, however, also in the female line and therefore fell in Abeyance between the four daughters and was awarded in 2004 to the oldest of the four, Hazel Czernin as the 10th Baroness.
