Barrie-Collingwood Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Barrie-Collingwood Railway (BCRY) is a Canadian railway company in the province of Ontario .

It operates 30 miles from Barrie to Collingwood . The newly built marshalling yard in Utopia has a connection to the Canadian Pacific Railway . The trains used to be picked up at the Canadian National's MacMillan Yard in Toronto .

BCRY is a joint venture between the towns of Barrie, Collingwood and Cando Contracting Limited , which operates the route. The infrastructure of the Utopia to Barrie line belongs to the town of Barrie, and that of the Utopia to Collingwood to the Collingwood parish. Main customers are National Starch & Chemical, Molson Breweries and Bentofix Technologies.

history

The city of Barrie acquired the "Newmarket Subdivision" from Barrie to Bradford from the CN . Here, as on the BCRY, regional multiple units are to be used. However, the route of the BCRY is only slightly maintained and the speed is limited to 16 km / h.

The railway is using an EMD GP9 , another one is currently off.

Since the railway lost 200,000 to 400,000 Canadian dollars annually, the two municipalities decided to cease operations on the line in February 2011. In addition, two important industrial companies had ceased operations and thus lost their most important customers.
