Bartninkai (Polish Bartniki ) is a town ( miestelis ) in the district of Vilkaviškis in southwestern Lithuania . It is the seat of an administrative district. In 2011, 390 residents lived here.
geography
Bartninkai is 17 kilometers south of Vilkaviškis near the border with Kaliningrad Oblast. Roads 5106 and 5115 run through the town.
history
The place was probably founded in the second half of the 16th century. The earliest mention of it is from 1649 and from 1744 as a town . During this time, Antoni Tyzenhaus (Anton von Tiesenhausen) built a factory that produced goblets, which he operated until 1780.
In 1944, Bartninkai was severely damaged. It has had a coat of arms since 1999.
