Basel Action Network

The Basel Action Network (BAN) is an international non-governmental organization that aims to combat the export of toxic waste , toxic technology and toxic products from industrialized countries to developing countries . BAN operates worldwide, but is based in Seattle , Washington state with a partner office in the Philippines . BAN is named after the Basel Convention , a UN treaty that regulates and prevents the dumping of toxic waste, especially in developing countries.

The association, founded in 1997, acts as guardian and promoter of the Basel Convention. The organization has made a name for itself as an important source of information on topics related to electronic waste and the trade in electrical appliances , as an advocate of an international policy that takes care of the trade in electrical appliances , as a research network to uncover the illegal export of electronic waste and as an important player in different campaigns.
