Base point (CAD)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The base point is a special reference point in computer-aided drawing (CAD).

Base or insertion points are often used in macro programming. Elements or details used more than once are defined only once in the macro and repeatedly executed as a macro after the base point has been set or moved.

The application is diverse; from the use as an insertion point of texts to the origin of any complex figure. Usually the base point is set with the origin (coordinates 0,0,0) in order to enable a simpler system of measurements when inserting or plotting details, without the otherwise necessary conversion of measurements when moving.
