A basin ( French , pronunciation : [ baˈsɛ̃ ]) is an artificially created water basin. It is used, among other things, in geometric garden art because, in contrast to the artificial lake, it only consists of basic geometric shapes (e.g. rectangle, circle, ellipse) or a combination of these (e.g. rectangle with an attached semicircle). In animal husbandry / zoo , large water basins are also known as basins. Basins for filming or for weightless training of astronauts can also be called a basin.

The round water basins of telescopic gas containers are also referred to as a basin. Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg ( MAN ), a former gas tank manufacturer, has patented the Völbbassin design.

The swimming pool is known from the leisure sector.
