Batboy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Batboy or Batgirl is a person in sports, the baseball bat wearing a team. A batboy can also lay out the equipment and rub the bass balls with rubbing mud .

history

Mascots and batboys have both been part of baseball since the 1880s. Perhaps the most famous mascot / Batboy was Eddie Bennett , who was reportedly hired as a mascot by the Chicago White Sox at the urging of Happy Felsch in 1919. This is a story Eddie told many times, but no White Sox player ever confirmed it. After the 1919 World Series scandal , Eddie was hired by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1920 . When the Dodgers lost the 1920 World Series to the Cleveland Indians , some suggested that the four games they lost were due to Bennett not being taken to the four Cleveland games . He then served as the mascot / batboy for the New York Yankees for almost 12 years .

uniform

Batboys usually wear the same uniform design as their team. They usually wear a helmet to protect them from balls and rackets.

Batboys are usually employees of the home team. Home Batboys often have regular jobs on a team and therefore have their first name on their uniforms. Visiting teams, on the other hand, usually do not know who will serve them as Batboy at away games and therefore send uniforms of different sizes to the venue.

A Batboy's uniform can have its own number, but it is usually 00 or "BB". If a Batboy uniform does not have a first name, it usually has the term 'BAT BOY' sewn on or this space is left blank.
