The Batesbock ( Nesotragus batesi ) is a dwarf antelope that is widespread in the rainforests of Central Africa. The name honors the American zoologist George Latimer Bates (1863-1940).
The Batesböckchen looks very similar to the Kleinstböckchen ( Neotragus pygmaeus ), but is larger with a shoulder height of 30 cm and a weight of 3 kg. In addition, the underside of the tail is black instead of white. The horns are about 2 inches long and smooth.
The males are territorial loners. Females also tend to be solitary, but are sometimes found in small groups.
