Construction workers monument (Wiesbaden)
The construction worker monument in Wiesbaden is a monument in Wiesbaden's Rheingauviertel . It was created in 1924 by the Wiesbaden sculptor Carl Wilhelm Bierbrauer . The client was the city administration, which commemorated three construction workers who died in the construction of communal housing complexes in the district.
On a high, brick block of stone, Bierbrauer created three larger-than-life figures from artificial stone , which stylized represent three archetypes of workers:
- on the left a bricklayer, shouldering a brick with his left hand, a trowel in his right hand
- in the middle stepped a foreman with the blueprint in his right hand
- on the right a carpenter, with his right hand holding a rope hanging over his shoulder, in his left an ax pointing to the ground
Bierbrauer followed the contemporary style of realism in the design . The powerful, athletic portrayal of the workers illustrates the self-confidence of the working class at the beginning of the Weimar Republic .
