As Bauer weapons to agricultural equipment that diverted from farmers in war or crisis to fight or were reforged referred.

Particularly famous were the farm implements originating from or further developed in Okinawa , as there the fighting with farmers weapons was practiced and perfected using specific fighting styles. Reasons for the use of peasant weapons were the high availability of agricultural implements and the ban on non-aristocratic people from carrying long weapons such as swords. They enabled the peasants to defend themselves against armed attackers.

In Kobudo and other martial arts, traditional peasant weapons are still used today.

Okinawa peasant weapons include the nunchaku , the kama , the eiku , the sansetsukon , and others (see also Kobudo ).

Although not developed in Okinawa, the Tonfa and Sai are generally included in this group.

In Europe, in addition to various regular weapons used by farmers, such as the farmers' army and various striking weapons ( knotted stick , long staff, beating), above all war scythe , war fork and flail are examples of peasant weapons with an originally civilian background.
