A Tekkō [ tekːoː ] ( Japanese 鉄 甲 ) is a Japanese Kobudō weapon.

Appearance

The Tekkō is a kind of brass knuckles made from a stirrup of the cavalry, which could be easily hidden and taken with you.

history

Like the other Kobudō weapons, this one is also an everyday object or tool that has been converted into a weapon . At the time of the Satsuma occupation, the usual weapons such as B. Swords ( katana ) prohibited in Okinawa . That is why the peasant population used their utensils as weapons. These could not be banned because they were economically indispensable for the occupiers (mostly for feeding the population).
