The sculpture Tree of Recultivation is a sculpture, created in 1972, it is located in the pedestrian zone of the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Building history and architecture

The sculpture was created in 1972 by the Bergheim-based architect Peter Pütz. It is a gift from RWE to the Kreissparkasse Bergheim . It is also called the “stylized tree”. The object is made up of steel wear parts from a coal mill, which are connected with metal bars. The elements were staggered in such a way that they take on the shape of a stylized tree - widening towards the middle, then tapering until a last set piece stretches upwards, like a stylized tree top. The sculpture symbolizes the energy industry, which is important for Bergheim. The discarded steel parts are not only given a new shape, but also given a new context: a tree. They symbolize the efforts that are made to recultivate the landscape after coal mining.
