A tree bench is a bench that is built completely or partially around a tree. Tree benches are typically found in gardens, but also in parks. Older castle gardens in particular are known for their nostalgic ornate metal tree benches. The modern tree bench, on the other hand, is mostly made of wood. Since tree benches are outside all year round, care is taken to use resistant types of wood during construction. Typical types of wood are teak , eucalyptus or Bangkirai wood . Metal tree benches, on the other hand, usually use iron as a material or powder-coated steel. To prevent rust, some metals are additionally coated with a protective varnish.

The term “tree bench” is also used for simply built benches, the seat of which consists of a part of a tree trunk cut in half lengthways.
