The north of Esslingen am Neckar located Katharinenlinde at 48 ° 46 '12.7 "  N , 9 ° 17' 50.2"  O is considered to be the scene of the legend of the holy Katharina , the founder of Esslinger St. Catherine's Hospital . This is said to have come to a pagan sacrificial site here in the fourth century. Because she refused to worship the gods and was executed, a divine judgment was required. A linden tree was planted upside down in the ground. If the plant dies, it should be evidence that the pagan deities are stronger; if it survives, it should show that the Christian religion is superior. The roots began to turn green. The current linden tree was planted in the 19th century to replace a predecessor felled by the storm.

In honor of Katharinas was on the 471.8  m above sea level. NHN high mountain built a field chapel that existed until around 1580.
