The forestry and technical school for forest management in Lohr am Main was founded in 1888 under the name of the Lohr Forestry School as a "training center for forest management and protection services". Closed after the First World War in 1922, it began again in 1931 as the Lohr Forestry School with training for the “lower and middle service of the state forest administration” for all of Bavaria. The current building was built in 1937/38. From 1939 to 1946 classes were suspended again due to the war. After the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences was established in 1973, it was mainly used for internal training and further education for the Bavarian State Forest Administration . In 1981 it became the Bavarian Technical School for Forest Management. Since 2005, the Lohr am Main Forest School has been the central training control center for young forest workers in Bavaria and the advanced training control center of the Bavarian Forest Administration in the city with the second largest communal forest in Bavaria.
