Bear Pole, Berg Lake Trail , Canada
The Bear Pole is a post construction that is widespread on campsites in North America and is intended to protect food from being accessed by bears .
The post has a smooth surface (mostly metal fittings) that prevents bears from climbing up on it. The food to be protected is pulled up using a rope construction. A distance of at least three meters to the surrounding trees is important for the construction.
On most campgrounds, this construction has been replaced or supplemented by bear resistant food containers - in which visitors' food is to be stored so as not to attract bears.
