Beck fear inventory

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Beck Anxiety Inventory ( BAI ) is a self-assessment questionnaire to determine the severity of anxiety disorders . However, no statements can be made about specific fears. The special thing about this questionnaire is that during the construction, care was taken to ensure that it does not agree much with the results of depression questionnaires ( discriminant validity ). It thus offers additional information. It can be used in the general population and in clinical samples.

The questionnaire is suitable as a screening for anxiety, whereby it must be taken into account that symptoms of panic disorder in particular are depicted, while other anxiety disorders are not covered enough. The questionnaire was originally published by Aaron T. Beck under the title Beck Anxiety Inventory in 1988. The German translation was made by Jürgen Margraf and Anke Ehlers in 2007. It consists of 21 questions with possible answers between 0 and 3. Accordingly, the total for all questions can be between 0 and 63. Symptoms are to be assessed in the past week. The questions were because of the symptoms of panic disorder and theGeneralized anxiety disorder developed. Both cognitive and physical aspects of fear are asked about. The processing time is estimated at 5 to 10 minutes. For the German version, there are standards from the age of 12.
