Architecture and history

From 1902 onwards, donations were collected for the construction of the house. The construction of the white wooden house was carried out by the contractor Anders Karlsen for 3211.44 Norwegian kroner . The aim was to finish it before the start of the military exercises in Nordfjordeid in May 1905. The military was particularly committed to the construction of the building, as it was to be used as a social home for the soldiers serving in Nordfjordeid. The building committee formed was headed by Pastor Høeg, who, however, left Nordfjordeid before it was completed. The building was then opened on June 4, 1905.

In fact, it was used as a soldiers' home for up to 1,000 soldiers deployed in Nordfjordeid. Military personnel could use it as a café and reading room, military music was practiced and mail was delivered. During the First World War , the community's sugar and flour supplies were stored in the house from 1914 to 1918.

Its use by the military ended in 1920. However, it remained in use as a prayer house with edification and mission meetings, confirmation and youth meetings, Sunday school, singing, meetings of the women's association and bazaars. In 1970 demolition and renovation work was carried out, and renovations in 1980. In 1988 the Betania was expanded to the west. The inauguration took place on May 7, 1989.
