Reflection year

In Austria , the year of reflection is a term that was introduced by the Vranitzky II federal government for the year 1988, when the country's violent annexation to the National Socialist German Reich was to be commemorated .

Since then, it has mainly been used to designate commemorative years that refer to the National Socialist rule in Austria 1938–1945 .

This concerned z. B. the year 1998 (80 years of the republic, 60 years of "Anschluss"). The year 2005, 60 years after Austria's liberation from National Socialism and the establishment of the Second Republic , was declared a year of reflection by the Federal Government Schüssel II . The year 2008 was also referred to in the media as a year of concern.
