Federico Gerdes
Federico Gerdes (born May 19, 1873 in Tacna ; † October 18, 1953 ) was a Peruvian composer , conductor and pianist .
Gerdes studied from 1894 to 1899 in Hamburg, Wiesbaden and at the Leipzig Conservatory and was a student of Carl Reinecke , Salomon Jadassohn and Karl Panzner . After completing his studies, he worked for several years as Kapellmeister at the Stadttheater Düsseldorf . He later went on a successful concert tour through Russia and then settled in Berlin as a piano teacher and piano accompanist.
In 1906 he became deputy director of the singing school of the Royal Opera and in this capacity took part in seven performances of Richard Wagner's operas as choirmaster, which in 1908 brought him an engagement as choir director and musical assistant at the Bayreuth Festival .
In the autumn of 1908, Gerdes was called to Peru by President José Pardo y Barreda to found the Academia Nacional de Música , of which he became the first director. At the same time he was appointed director of the Sociedad Filarmónica de Lima . As a composer Gerdes u. a. with songs in the romantic tradition.
