Beefalo

The Beefalo is a cattle that has been created by crossing the American bison with domestic cattle since the mid-19th century . The name is a suitcase word from the English words beef for beef and Buffalo as a common name for the bison. Various domestic cattle breeds are used for crossbreeding. The Beefalo should be more resistant and easier to care for. The meat of the beefalo is leaner than that of the domestic beef. Crosses with more than 3/8 bison are called bison hybrids . The targeted development of the breed began in the 1970s and in 1983 the Beefalo World Registry was set up.

Outwardly, Beefalo have little resemblance to a bison, their appearance depends on the cattle breeds that are crossed.
