By God I am safe is for the Taizé Community written hymn , which originally called Mon âme se repose (French, My soul rests, rather, my soul comes to rest) was written in French. Both the original French version and the translated version are known in German-speaking countries.

text

French translation German version
Mon âme se repose en paix sur Dieu seul:

De lui vient mon salut

Oui, sur Dieu seul mon âme se repose

Se repose en paix.

My soul rests in peace on God alone:

My redemption comes from him.

Yes, my soul rests on God alone.

Rest in peace.

I am safe with God, quiet like a child

with him is consolation and salvation,

Yes, my soul consumes itself towards God,

come in peace.

As with some translations of Taizé songs, a slight shift in content can be seen between the original version - here in French - and the translation. While there is a reference to peace (en paix sur Dieu) in French, a comparison (silent as a child) is used in German . A slightly different orientation can also be seen in the second verse: "Salut" can be translated as redemption, in the German version consolation and salvation are mentioned.

shape

The song is a four-part short chant characteristic of the Taizé community . The song is sung over and over again in a meditative manner. It can be supported by instruments or solo chants.

In addition to the German version, there are eleven other languages in which the song has been translated so that it can be singed: English (In God alone), Norwegian (Min sjel får hvile), Spanish (En ti, Señor reposa todo mi ser) , Portuguese (A minh 'alma descansa), Czech (Jen Bůh mé duši), Polish (Ty dasz mi pokój serca), Hungarian (lelkem csak az Úrnál), Croatian (U Bogu duša moja), Finnish (Ramybę siela randa Viešpatyje) , Russian, Italian (In Dio trovo pace).

The song was composed by Jacques Berthier . It has been in the Taizé hymn book since its release, in the current version under song number 32.

The text has a biblical origin and comes from Ps 62,2  EU :

"With God alone my soul becomes calm, salvation comes from him."
