The addition custom is a term used in prehistoric and early historical archeology . This refers to the way of the addition of objects (status symbols) and costume components in prehistoric graves of many cultures with mostly body or cremations . The custom (or the renunciation of additions) of an archaeological culture results in certain patterns with which the affiliation to it, and in part also the social position of the buried person can be determined.

Research into the custom is z. B. in the archeology of the early Medieval Merovingian period , because here cultural contacts and cultural influences are particularly evident in the individual grave goods .
