Assistant Minister

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Assistant Minister ( ministre auprès d'un ministre or ministre délégué , also: ministre chargé de ... ) is an office in a French government . An associate minister has cabinet rank, but is usually attached to another minister, i.e. subordinate to him.

A minister assigned to another minister is often responsible for important areas of the respective ministry. For example, in 2011 Thierry Mariani was Minister for Transport in the Ministry of Environment, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing under Minister Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet . In this case, the assistant minister, under the supervision of the minister, who has a wide area of responsibility, takes the lead responsibility for a sub-area. Responsibility for the affairs of the French overseas territories , traditionally assigned to the Ministry of the Interior , is often delegated to an assigned minister.

There can also be ministers assigned to the prime minister; there have even been ministres délégué s without a superior minister.

In the government hierarchy and in terms of protocol , the assigned ministers stand between the ministers and the state secretaries (Secrétaires d'État) .
